Marq DeSouza

Facebook Twitter MySpace Digg Google Buzz Yahoo Buzz

Marq DeSouzaMarq DeSouza is a Vancouver based musician who's so far released 5 critically-acclaimed albums of self-penned material. For the most part, records composed of strong, song-based rock n' roll in the classic way, with frequent detours into the shady musical sidestreets. Elements of 70's glam, Nashville twang, hard city blues, country-folk, Brill building balladry, power pop, Southernsoul & even the occasional hip-hop & metal are all filtered through a uniquely powerful lyrical view.

At the heart of these sounds lies the unvarnished voice, bloodied but unbowed. Possibly an acquired taste, but this world certainly doesn't need anymore cookie-cutters or even virtuosos behind the mic. Truth, however, is never out of demand.

One Way StateLaunched March 1st, 2010, Edmonton rock band One Way State have quickly climbed the ranks in the Western Canadian scene. Along with a raw, gritty sound and intelligent pop overtones comes an intense, almost frantic live show, ready to set fire to the stage, staying true to the spirit of Rock n' Roll.
Born from the ashes of fallen groups, One Way State came to fruition in early-2010. Songs came quickly, and so did show dates. They played Show #1 on April 10th, 2010 at Brixx in Edmonton, surprising 125 rock-loving patrons with their tightness and song quality. The Brixx show opened a few doors for One Way State, booking dates with Warner recording artist 'Maurice', Vancouver's perennial showmen 'Scatterheart', and rising star 'Stef Lang'. They've also had more than their fair share of favourable press, a rarity for a band yet to release a record.

Paul FilekIf you walk down the street in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Banff, Toronto or even Grand Prairie and you see flocks of women heading to one place, chances are it’s a Paul Filek concert or a shoe sale.

Paul Filek, the youngest of six brothers, was born and raised in Kamloops, B.C. by devout Catholic parents. He was born into a long string of musicians but his siblings chose careers as lawyers, accountants, doctors and engineers. Paul, the youngest child initially took a similar path as his older brothers but music became more important, as life went on. Paul sang in the school choir but never pursued his singing any further.

“Looking back on it, I really did want the solo in choir but never asked for it, I guess I was just too scared to try.”

Seat of MorphusA new Saskatoon based band. To those who are sitting on the edges of their seats... Music will be recorded...soon!

Begun as a coalescing of strange beings in the bowels of west-side Saskatoon, we started creating music in the confines of a small room and with the addition of our keyboardist exploded into the local music scene.

Stylistically we have a varied sound with solid rhythm section layered with flowing guitar and infused with electric organ.

SeSe7en Sided7enSided began 10 years ago, when a couple friends decided that they wanted to take a chance and start a rock band. Of course, back in the day it was only a day dream better spent throughout a high school math class. But today, that dream, with a lot of hard work & long nights has evolved into a very busy & active life-style.

The band consisting of Darren Nakonechny (Lead Vocals/Guitar), Graham Bissell (Lead Guitar/Back-up Vocals), Jon Squires (Bass Guitar) & Aaron Hanley(Drums & Percussion), have worked day in & day out on finding that unique sound that separates them from an increasingly over crowded music scene. Several years of live shows and studio experience have given the band the upper edge in writing new music & keeping live performances fresh and exciting.

Warjunk

Facebook Twitter MySpace Digg Google Buzz Yahoo Buzz

WarjunkWarjunk cites their influences in lyrics and music to include NIN, David Bowie, Nick Cave, Depeche Mode, and The Mars Volta.
“Safe Haven” has a hint of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, “(I Can’t) Wait” has the passion of NIN, and "Broken" is somehow reminiscent of U2.

"the band is capable of delivering progressive hard-rock arrangements with intriguing lyrics, time changes, and hooks aplenty. The group's catchy brand of melodic metal also has a gentler side, as heard in the tender "Safe Haven", and the imaginative interplay between talented pickers Scott and MacLeod is particularly evident on raging but accessible tunes like "Lucky Day" and the feedback-laden "Struggle". While Warjunk sounds fine on CD, the band is best experienced in a concert setting"..... Steve Newton, The Georgia Straight.
