Norine Braun

Norine BraunNorine Braun's new cd No. 8 brings renowned producer and Juno nominated, Adam Popowitz (Pacifika, Mollies Revenge, Leela Gilday) on board producing and performing on the songs with bass and lead guitar. Elliot Polsky, drummer extraordinaire (Jim Byrnes, Zubot and Dawson, Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir) lends a pair of hands and feet on the groove and heartbeat of No. 8. Blues meister Andrew "HuggyBear" Huggard (Ollie Bollen Trio, Leonard and the Lab Rats) shakes things up with his soulful blues harmonica. International touring freelance keyboard/pianist Mary Ancheta (Bjork,John Mayer, Nickleback) shines with her astounding keys on feature tracks too. The new material on the album is a mix of originals with blues, roots rock and soul at the center.

From the Triad Theatre in NYC to Shibuya Home in the entertainment district of Tokyo and to the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, international performer and singer-songwriter Norine Braun offers an "amazing, diverse and terrific show" according to DJ Motmot from Songplanet adding she "would definitely go see Norine perform again".

Vancouver based Norine Braun, showcases her vast pool of musical influences, which according to  Progressiveworld.net, is “all over the musical map, stretching...her vocals into pop, rock, hip-hop, jazz, spoken-word, blues...you name it, she's got it covered.”

Citing derivative influences that include Sade, Bjork, Tracy Chapman, kd lang, Patti Smith and Norah Jones, Braun’s musical bedrock is steeped in soul, with jazz, ambient pop and rock & roll laid overtop in a sound that Indie-Music.com has observed “has great depth, versatility, and provides a fresh alternative to pretty much anything you could get your hands on in the mainstream progressive rock world.”

The recipient of awards including the prestigious ‘Female Singer-Songwriter of the Year’ in the Jazz Category at the International Independent L.A. Music Awards, Braun, even as a newcomer, has dazzled her critics as “a rare find,” according to The Best Female Musicians Magazine. Ink19 Magazine, meanwhile, has observed that while “people throw the word eclectic around a lot these days...pop vocalist Norine Braun...earns that label.”

Artsy and fun, thoughtful and savvy, Norine Braun will zing to the heart of any listener.

In a style and sound reminiscent of the legendary Joni Mitchell, Norine Braun's Newest Release "Acoustically Inclined", once again proves that there are artists still out there that refuse to be pigeoned holed into one genre or the other, and therefore are able to offer their fans something fresh and exciting each time they record. "Acoustically Inclined" offers it listeners a number of Genres, performed with a brilliance and insight that is sure to delight all her present fans, while certainly making more along the way.

- John Vermilyea (Blues Underground Network)

Acoustically Inclined is the first ever acoustic album from Vancouver-based singer/songwriter Norine Braun. Over the course of eight studio albums Braun has established herself as an award winning jazz musician. The folk and jangle pop of Acoustically Inclined is a bit of a departure for Braun. Dominated by Braun's surprisingly deep and impactful vocals, the album is a collection of sixteen coffee house-worthy tracks. Most of the songs consist of a simple arrangement of voice and spryly strummed guitar. The result is an extremely crisp sound. If there was any doubt about the folk nature of the album it was blown away with "There's A Long, Long Trail A Winding". The prominent harmonica of the song make it easy to imagine Bob Dylan himself singing it. "Climb The Mountain" stands out for the beautifully hopeful harmony vocals between Braun and guitarist Mark McKenzie. "Christmas Bells" should have a place as a Canadiana Christmas favorite. Throw in a pretty straight ahead cover of "These Boots Are Made for Walkin" and you have a decent little record. Best tracks: "Climb the Mountain", "Truth and Dares"
