Michael Soze
Michael Soze began his career - and has established a strong reputation - in the computer industry during a time when the technology sector was considered somewhat tumultuous. Up for a challenge, and driven by passion, Soze has always been interested in music. With no quantifiable musical inclination himself, other than an ear for what the masses find appealing, he found his place on the business and marketing side of music; aiding up-and-coming artists in packaging themselves in order to achieve the illusive record deal. During this time, film making technology, along with most of the world, went digital, and it began to intersect directly with Soze's "day job".
Film and video had always been of interest; however, the digital transformation had now put that interest within reach. Soze began dabbling in video, working with a number of artists to produce promotional videos to promote their music. Through technological advancement and personal growth in the music business and related technology fields, Soze's early work as an up and coming music video director has exposed a distinct visionary style reminiscent of other director's early work, such as Hype Williams and fellow Canadian, Lil X. Soze's predilection for technology and special effects, as well as his self-taught film style, lend a unique perspective and a break-out style in the sea of mediocrity that has overtaken the music video arena. "Just because one can, doesn't mean one should." is the response often heard about artists taking video production into their own hands, as it happens far too often.
Soze's creative and organizational talents were brought to bear five years ago when he began working with Playboy's golf division as Director of Creative Services, a position he still holds today. In addition, Soze currently works closely with the Food Bank to expand awareness and raise money. This philanthropic project brings together local artists to produce compilations from which half the proceeds will be located to the local Food Bank. The first compilation is currently slated for release in Q2 2010 and is being used as the pilot. Soze's vision is to subsidize the cost of a music video for an artist involved in the compilation and for other artists deemed to have what it takes to make it in the music industry. Soze truly believes in the importance of creating "VideoFactWest"; because government funding rarely reaches out west and never outside of Vancouver, Soze's determined to bring to the forefront the pool of untapped urban talent while giving back to the community.
A bold visionary, combined with the savvy marketer and steadfast businessman are characteristics and skills evident from inception to completion in all of Michael Soza's projects.
